What to expect from NCC
When you visit New Covenant Church you will not be pointed out, called upon or embarrassed. We promise not to seduce you into standing up, raising your hand, walking an aisle or doing anything else that might make you uncomfortable. You will be free to be you.
Whether you are homeless or own a really nice home; are poor or make a six-figure income; are abusing drugs or carefully following the advice of your doctor; wear short skirts or long dresses; drink alcohol or sweet tea; wear a coat and tie or blue jeans and a t-shirt; prefer hanging out with debutantes or rednecks; like classical music or contemporary music, regardless of who you are, expect to be welcomed. However, don’t expect us to be just like you, not that there would be anything wrong with that. But we recognize that we are all different; wonderfully made by God. At New Covenant we have come to accept and appreciate the rich diversity of our God and those made in his image. He wants us to strive for likemindedness and a unity of belief but he wants this to occur in the midst of a loving fellowship of differing gifts, abilities, ethnic and social classifications. Come as you are and expect to be loved for who you are the way you are.
Recognizing that God delights in our differences and not just in our conformity to a standard helps us to be less condemning and critical of others. We recognize that the sanctification we all need takes time, often much time. And even when we become fully like Jesus we will still not lose our individual uniqueness. This is glorious truth we embrace though we need to acknowledge that we do not always embrace it perfectly. Loving people just as they are is difficult, but we are trying. We are all sinners, including pastors; we all need help. Don’t expect us to have it all together or even so much of life together that we can run on our own superiority. We expect to always need grace.
Jesus said, “But go and learn what this means, 'I desire COMPASSION, and not sacrifice,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Matt.9:13). Expect us to be sinners called out of darkness by God and brought into his wonderful and marvelous light. We love and adore God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and seek to express eternal gratitude to him who has chosen to care for sinners like us. In the area of worship music, expect the music to be a blend of who we are (as God has gifted us), not what we would like to package for entertainment. In the areas of preaching and teaching, expect spiritually motivated encouragement to become mature and fully devoted followers of Christ.
You may be just like us in the sense that you need the love and forgiveness of Jesus and not the condemnation of the righteous. Please check us out. “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and of death” (Rom.8:2). We are a church of sinners being changed by grace . . . living more and more like Jesus a little more each day or at least most days . . . what a life of abundance we have to share!
Expect us to be life-changing, challenging each other to think, work and live as God intended—by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Expect us to be loving. Join us for large-group worship, small-group fellowship, Bible studies, discipleship classes, family and youth events, men’s and women’s ministries, compassionate counseling, and much, much more!
