Outline

Spiritual Fullness Defined:

  1. Being “alive” in the Spirit = the possession of the Spirit (Rom. 8:9-10).

  2. Our fullness of the Spirit should emulate biblical descriptions:   

    1. Jesus (Luke 4:1).   

    2. Deacons (Acts 6:3).   

    3. Stephen (Acts 7:55).   

    4. Barnabas (Acts 11:24).

  3. The phrase “full of the Holy Spirit” is used to denote the controlling disposition of a man (cf. Luke 5:12; Acts 13:8-10).

  4. Examples of specific and sometimes sudden fillings of the Holy Spirit:   

    1. Luke 1:15, 41, 67.   

    2. Acts 2:4, 8.   

    3. Acts 4:8.   

    4. Acts 4:31.

Spiritual Fullness Demonstrated:

  1. Eph. 5:18-21 demonstrates spiritual fullness.

  2. Spiritual fullness demonstrates a control of all our faculties consistent with the fruit of the Spirit (cf. Gal. 5:22,23).

  3. Evidences of being filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:19-21): 

    1. Speaking God’s truth (cf. Col. 3:16 with Eph. 5:19).   

    2. Singing (Eph. 5:19).   

    3. Showing gratitude (Eph. 5:20).   

    4. Submitting (Eph. 5:21).

Spiritual Fullness Desired:

  1. Realize there is a command to be “spirit-filled.”

  2. Realize we are not commanded to seek a second baptism of the Holy Spirit.

  3. Realize to be filled with the Spirit we must possess the Spirit by regeneration (John 3:3,5).

  4. Recognize that the Holy Spirit does not desire to fill an unholy vessel (Acts 5:3, 9, 32).

  5. Seek greater spiritual fullness through prayer (Luke 11:13).SONG LIST:
