Sermon Outline:
The Temple as Place:
The OT church (Acts 7:38) needed a place for God to dwell (Exod. 25:8, 9).
The tabernacle then Solomon’s Temple (1 Kings 8:27-30; 41-43; Isa. 56:7).
God in the clouds, fire, and smoke (2 Chron. 5:11-14; 7:1-3).
The NT dwelling place of God was in Jesus (Matt. 1:23; Col. 2:9).
The Temple as People:
The “you” in 1 Cor. 3:16,17 is plural.
When we gather together as a church, we are “a temple of God.”
The Church God is describing is a local body of believers (1 Cor. 1:2).
God gives warning to understand the church as God’s temple (1 Cor. 3:17).
The Temple as Persons:
The church as people will not be a fit without holiness (1 Cor. 6:12-20).
The stain of one part diminishes the beauty and glory of the whole.
We must not be bound together with what is lawless (2 Cor. 6:14-18).
The Temple Pondered:
A Call for great commitment to the Church.
A Call for great commitment to Personal Holiness.
A Call for great commitment to Brotherly Love.
A Call for great commitment to the Praise of God.
